Various statistics state that more than 25 percent of middle aged women and 15 percent of all women have an issue of unwanted facial hair. The unwanted hair is usually on the chin and the upper lip. Sometimes it comes from a hormonal imbalance, and other times no one can explain it. It can be embarrassing no matter what brings on the episode. A woman can try a few things to get rid of the problem.

Razor Shaving

A woman may want to rid herself of an unwanted hair problem by using a razor. Razor shaving has some advantages to it. For one, it is quick and painless as long as she takes her time and moves her hand with precision. Razor shaving is an inexpensive way to get rid of hair, as well. Shaving cream and razors cost less than $5. The downside to razor shaving is that it causes the hair to grow back rapidly. Just as male beards and mustaches grow back more course than they were before after the man shaves for the first time, the female facial hair regrows with a thicker and harsher texture.

Hair Removal Creams and Gels

Another option for removing unwanted hair for a woman is to purchase hair removal creams or gels. These gels usually contain ingredients such as Potassium Thioglycolate, Urea, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate and various other ingredients. The benefit of using gels and creams is that they keep the hair off the affected area for a longer time than a razor cut does. Hair removal gels may keep the hair off of the face for several weeks whereas the razor cut may only last for three to five days.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is another option for women who have the funds to contribute to it. Laser hair removal uses the light from a laser to heat up and destroy the hair follicles. Once the hair follicles die, they do not regenerate or come back. The specialist first trims the unwanted hair to a fraction of a millimeter. Then, he or she applies the laser light to the unwanted hair. The entire procedure takes less than an hour, but the patient may have to come back a few times before the hair follicles die for good. The positive side to laser surgery is that it can get rid of the hair forever. The negative side to laser hair removal is that it may be pricey for a person.

An interested female should contact a cosmetic specialist and ask for a consultation to discuss the available options for hair removal. Some payment arrangements may be available. Having the hair removed permanently may give the person a newly found sense of self-esteem and confidence. There are resources available at Tony Shamas Hair & Laser for more information.
